Zak looked off his game last night IMO . Myself I kinda think there styles as similar. but last night's preformance was funtional with what he had to work with.
Was Pete having guitar issues at the end of that last solo? It seemed to me that he popped something

As much as I liked them, it was funny to see his belly button there, and for a geezer, though it looks better than mine, you can't get around it being a bit odd...but I suppose you are alluding to something else that "popped", eh?

And, though I appreciate that there is always a great deal of variation in how folks perceive "their" bands 30-40 yrs later, while geezers, I am surprised by the variation in assessments above concerning this brief show...also, whomever it was that said they are not at their best "live"...I have thought that about some of their shows, but certainly they have some legendary performances, and the one island show from 69 or 70 or so (damn, was it Mann or Wight?) has some amazing highlights...

Maybe I misunderstood the post on live vs studio for them.

The best is 'Live at Leeds' - originally just a single album with just six tracks on it, only three of which are Townsend songs. The De-luxe double CD is whole different beast, and really captures them at their peak. Many more Townsend songs on the first disc, and a load of 'Tommy' on the second. Really powerful, and if you were to own only on Who release ....

I really liked Pete's acoustic work on the "Secret Policeman's Ball" or some such from the late 70s early 80s...

As I rant on about down below, I think they really deserve to be cut some slack...Dire and Johnny are just ganging up cause we couldn't slice and dice the PATS, so the brits will have to do...and they do, don't they though?

I remember that, and I agree! I think they were benefit shows, recorded and released (theatrically?) on VHS and Beta. Crud, what song did he play??
There was a great bit on one of them where a guy teaches you how to "speak" Japanese by being Cold, Constipated and Forgetful.

Dangit, I think he played Pinball Wizard. Is that right?

It is the Isle of Wight, Your right about the highlights from that, one of my favorites is when the crowd made Joni Mitchell cry, haha no that ain't cool. Something about since woodstock was free why isn't this?, Your selling out and the rest of that garbage about music should be free.
Anyway, I digress as usual, I was talking about Petes guitar, I missed the belly-button malfuntion, It just seemed to me his whole guitar rig dropped out at the end,
Its a fair comparrison I guess with the talk about whether Manning hurt his legacy with his superbowl preformance, can the same be judged of Pete and Rodger, I mean I've loved that band since I was 5 yrs old. Pete wrote on the Who by Numbers " I wonder in the dead of night, How do I rate?, Pretty good guys, LONG LIVE ROCK !
They were honestly a steam hammer of a band live at one point. But it is there studio work with Tommy and then on to Who's next, to be followed shortly by Quadraphenia, the material they have to pull from is endless.

I don't think it's too hard to make Joni Mitchell cry, the one time I saw her (Boston in 1983) she stormed off the stage and wouldn't return after 2 or 3 songs because the audience wasn't being attentive enough to her.

Yeah, I think that's it. I like her music but she's definitely a bit of a diva. I didn't ever care to see her after that.
